On Saturday, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Alexander Stubb, President of Finland, during the Munich Security Conference. This meeting highlighted the strengthening ties between Yemen and Finland.
During the meeting, President Alimi expressed his appreciation for the strong bilateral relations between the two nations. He praised Finland’s unwavering support for Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy, unity, and territorial integrity.
President Alimi noted Finland’s successful governance model, which combines internal stability, good governance, advanced education, and peacebuilding. He expressed Yemen’s eagerness to learn from Finland’s expertise in public sector reform, decentralization, and education as essential steps toward rebuilding national identity.
The Yemeni President commended Finland for hosting numerous meetings and consultations among Yemeni parties. He acknowledged Finland’s longstanding role in international mediation and conflict resolution, emphasizing its importance in the region.
The discussion also covered recent developments in Yemen. President Alimi highlighted significant advancements in unifying political and military decisions, forming a new government, and improving basic services, including the regular payment of salaries to employees.
President Alimi shared his vision for southern dialogue as a framework for solidifying national partnership. He also acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s sincere support in this regard.
The Yemeni leader expressed his hope for a more active role from Finland within the European Union. He urged for a firmer stance against Houthi militias and the expansion of sanctions on financing and smuggling networks.
President Alimi reiterated that the security of the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait is not solely a Yemeni issue but a global concern. He called on the international community to support Yemen’s government in asserting control over its territories.
The meeting included key figures such as Dr. Yahya Alshaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, Economic Advisor Abdulaziz Al-Makhlafi, and Yemen’s Ambassador to Berlin, Louay Al-Eryani.
This meeting underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing Yemen’s challenges and enhancing regional stability.
