A citizen died under mysterious circumstances in a prison controlled by the Houthi militia in Ibb Governorate, according to local sources.
The inmate, Abdulkarim Abdullah Mohammed Al-Faqih, passed away inside the Dhi Al-Sufal Prison, which is under Houthi control in the southern part of the governorate. This incident occurred despite a preliminary court ruling issued in December that declared his innocence and ordered his release.
Sources indicate that Al-Faqih had been detained over a financial case. Although the court ruled in his favor, the militia authorities refused to release him. They justified their decision by stating that he had not provided a personal guarantee to complete the legal procedures before the appeals court. The reasons behind his death remain undisclosed.
Local sources reported that authorities transferred Al-Faqih’s body to the government hospital’s morgue in the district. Human rights advocates are now demanding a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and accountability for those responsible.
This incident raises serious concerns about the treatment of inmates in Houthi-controlled facilities. The community and human rights organizations are urging for immediate action to ensure justice and transparency in this troubling case.
