President Rashad Alimi Participates in High-Level UN Future Summit

Introduction to the Summit

On Sunday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, along with Council members Aidarus Al-Zubaidi and Othman Majli, attended the High-Level Future Summit organized by the United Nations. This event coincides with the upcoming General Assembly sessions, which are set to officially begin next Tuesday.

Addressing Yemen’s Challenges

During the summit, President Alimi plans to deliver a speech highlighting the significant challenges posed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia’s war. He will discuss the repercussions on various levels, including Yemen’s struggles to meet its commitments related to the Millennium Development Goals and sustainable development. The President will also outline the current priorities in light of these challenges and emphasize the need for regional and international support to strengthen the resilience of the Yemeni people in their pursuit of a better future.

Aiming for Global Consensus

The high-profile event seeks to forge a new global consensus on achieving a better present while ensuring future protection. It aims to accelerate efforts to meet existing international commitments and take tangible steps to address challenges while seizing emerging opportunities. This approach comes in response to the escalating challenges of the 21st century, including wars, conflicts, natural disasters, climate change, and rapid technological advancements.

Key Focus Areas of the Summit

The summit will concentrate on five main pathways: sustainable development and financing, peace and security, a digital future for all, youth and future generations, and global governance. Additionally, it will address topics that intersect with the United Nations’ work, such as human rights, gender equality, and the climate crisis.

Expected Outcomes and Agreements

At the conclusion of the summit, participating nations are expected to endorse several agreements, including the “Future Charter,” the “Global Digital Charter,” and the “Next Generations Declaration.”

The “Future Charter” will cover chapters on sustainable development and financing, international peace and security, science and technology, innovation, digital cooperation, youth and future generations, and global governance.

The “Global Digital Charter” aims to bridge digital divides and will represent the first global agreement on artificial intelligence technologies. It seeks to establish a United Nations-centered international platform that brings all stakeholders together. Meanwhile, the “Next Generations Declaration” will commit leaders to consider the future when making decisions.

Conclusion

The High-Level Future Summit represents a crucial opportunity for world leaders to collaborate on addressing pressing global issues while fostering a sustainable and equitable future for all.
