Taiz Governor Inaugurates First Scientific Conference on Cardiology and Kidney Transplantation

In a significant development for the medical community, the Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, inaugurated the first scientific conference on cardiology, vascular diseases, and kidney transplantation today. The event, witnessing the participation of 600 doctors and consultants, is a collaborative effort organized by the Heart Center in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health and Population and Taiz University.

A Vision for Scientific Advancement

Governor Shamsan praised the efforts behind the conference’s organization, highlighting its clear scientific vision and precision in serving to stimulate the movement of scientific research and the exchange of ideas and discussions. These discussions are expected to yield new information and research beneficial to society. He emphasized that scientific research is a fundamental pillar in the comprehensive development process and in advancing society at all levels and sectors. Shamsan also acknowledged the university’s role as an inexhaustible source of qualified personnel capable of understanding and implementing developmental plans and programs.

Overcoming Challenges

The governor pointed to the initial challenges and obstacles faced in establishing the Heart and Vascular Diseases and Kidney Transplantation Center, especially at a time when the health sector’s infrastructure was completely absent due to the war ignited by the Houthi militias. Despite these challenges, the center has become a pride of the governorate, achieving remarkable accomplishments and providing high-quality medical services to citizens from various provinces.

The Importance of Community Participation

Shamsan stressed the necessity of community participation in achieving successes and aspirations, providing the best service, and localizing treatment by leveraging competencies and capabilities. He commended the efforts of the Heart Center’s management in organizing the conference and all the supporting entities for this unique scientific event.

Ministry’s Support and Conference Achievements

Deputy Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Abdullah Dahan, confirmed the ministry’s readiness to adopt the conference’s outcomes and recommendations and translate them into tangible reality. Meanwhile, the conference president and director of the Heart Center, Dr. Abu Zarr Al-Ghafari, outlined the center’s achievements with its distinguished staff and contributions from Taiz University. He noted that the conference would discuss 82 scientific papers and research over three days, with 600 doctors and consultants participating. Additionally, the event includes workshops, surgical operations at the center, and a training program targeting 250 doctors, underlining the critical role of community participation in achieving health sector successes.

This landmark conference not only marks a pivotal moment for Taiz but also for the medical field in Yemen, showcasing the relentless pursuit of scientific and medical excellence despite challenging circumstances.
