ADEN, YEMEN – Major General Mahmoud Al-Sabahi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, emphasized the critical need to strengthen the capabilities of Yemen’s Coast Guard. He underscored the importance of improving coordination and collaboration with relevant authorities to bolster maritime security, protect national interests, and ensure the safety of shipping routes.
During a recent meeting held in the temporary capital of Aden, Major General Al-Sabahi convened with Major General Khaled Al-Qamali, the head of the Coast Guard. The two leaders discussed the current operations and overall security readiness of the Coast Guard units. Al-Sabahi requested a comprehensive briefing on the tasks and activities being undertaken by the Coast Guard, along with the ongoing efforts to secure coastal areas and combat smuggling and organized crime.
Al-Sabahi stressed the necessity of continuous development, training, and capacity-building initiatives. He articulated that these efforts would significantly enhance the efficiency and readiness of maritime and technical units, enabling them to effectively fulfill their national duties.
In response, Major General Al-Qamali reaffirmed the Coast Guard’s commitment to its national and security responsibilities. He expressed gratitude for the political leadership’s support for the Coast Guard’s development programs and initiatives.
The discussions between Al-Sabahi and Al-Qamali reflect a robust commitment to enhancing maritime security in Yemen. By focusing on capacity building and collaboration, the Coast Guard aims to address current challenges and ensure the safety of maritime operations.
