Six killed in clashes between tribal militants and Houthi militia in Al-Jawf.

Six Killed in Armed Clashes in Al-Jawf

On Saturday evening, six individuals lost their lives in armed clashes at the Al-Mahir checkpoint in the Khabb and Al-Shaf district of Al-Jawf province. Among the deceased, three belonged to the Houthi militia, while the other three were local tribesmen. Several others sustained injuries during the violent confrontation.

Details of the Incident

A tribal source reported that the clashes erupted when Houthi militia members attempted to stop armed men from the Al-Jaida tribe as they passed through the checkpoint, which lies between the regions of Khabb and Al-Yatima. This led to an exchange of gunfire between the two groups.

Escalation of Violence

In response to the initial confrontation, the Al-Jaida tribe dispatched armed reinforcements to support their members. This escalation resulted in the deaths of three militia members and three tribesmen, along with injuries on both sides.

Casualties Identified

The source confirmed the identities of two of the militia casualties:

  • Mohammed Ahmed Al-Asadi, known as “Abu Ahmed”
  • Kanaan Hafiz Allah Qabban

The identity of the third militia member remains unknown.

Ongoing Tensions

Although the clashes eventually ceased, tensions in the area remain high. The Al-Mahir checkpoint serves as a significant security point for the militia and frequently experiences tribal attacks due to ongoing disputes with Houthi elements.

Conclusion

The situation in Al-Jawf highlights the ongoing conflict between local tribes and the Houthi militia, underscoring the fragile security environment in the region. As tensions continue, the potential for further violence looms large.
