The French government has confirmed that the presidential elections will take place on the scheduled dates of April 18 and May 2, 2027. This announcement comes despite recent violence during protests on October 17, which raised concerns about the electoral timetable.
Government spokesperson Mod Bréguion stated after a cabinet meeting that authorities see no justification for altering the election dates. She emphasized that any changes to the electoral schedule would amount to yielding to rioters and disruptive elements.
Bréguion highlighted that the state demonstrated its ability to maintain control and address disturbances during the recent weekend. She acknowledged the potential for further violence coinciding with the upcoming May Day mobilization on May 1. Nevertheless, the French government remains committed to holding the elections as planned and will continue to implement necessary measures to ensure security and stability.
