On Tuesday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed hope that recent regional developments would alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people and restore their full national rights. He emphasized that the current phase demands the highest levels of awareness and responsibility from all Lebanese citizens.
In a congratulatory message for the Islamic New Year, published by the Lebanese presidency, Aoun noted that this occasion arrives during “exceptional and delicate circumstances” facing Lebanon. He highlighted that the region is experiencing “rapid developments and challenges” that necessitate strengthening internal cohesion among the Lebanese.
The president urged the Lebanese to unite more than ever and rally around state institutions. He also called for enhanced humanitarian and national solidarity to confront looming dangers, ensuring Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability.
Aoun articulated his hope that recent developments would fulfill the Lebanese people’s aspirations for security, stability, dignity, and peace of mind. He affirmed that the Lebanese deserve a dignified life and that regional changes could help liberate occupied territories and end the suffering of the people.
The Lebanese president’s remarks coincided with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s confirmation that achieving a “permanent” end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, is the “most important issue” in the ongoing framework agreement discussions between Washington and Tehran. Araghchi clarified that the proposed memorandum includes an immediate and permanent ceasefire, noting that the continued Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon could violate this agreement.
While the details of the interim agreement remain largely undisclosed, officials’ statements reflect the significance of the current phase and its impact on Lebanon and the region.
