President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, has expressed his strong support for a significant agreement reached today for the release of 1,750 detainees. This agreement represents the largest prisoner exchange to date, reinforcing the state’s commitment to addressing this critical humanitarian issue.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, President Alimi characterized the agreement as a “moment of joy and hope.” He underscored that it serves as a positive sign ahead of the forthcoming Eid al-Adha, offering a renewed opportunity to emphasize humanitarian and religious values. The primary objective of the agreement is to reunite families and alleviate the suffering caused by prolonged separation.
On behalf of the Council and the government, President Alimi expressed profound gratitude for the essential role played by Saudi Arabia in the achievement of this milestone. He also acknowledged the contributions of the United Nations Special Envoy’s office, along with support from Jordan, Oman, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Their collaborative efforts were instrumental in bringing this historic agreement to fruition.
Earlier today, the government negotiating team announced the details of this significant agreement, which involves the release of approximately 1,750 detainees from various factions, including 27 members of the Arab Coalition forces. The negotiations that led to this agreement began in Muscat, Oman, on December 11, 2025. The discussions adhered to the principle of “all for all,” culminating in the signing of lists and an implementation mechanism. This development marks a substantial breakthrough in addressing a complex humanitarian crisis.
The successful negotiation and impending release of detainees represent a crucial step towards healing and reconciliation within the nation. As the populace prepares for Eid al-Adha, this agreement offers a glimmer of hope for countless families affected by the ongoing conflict.
