PM says Mansoura gas explosion is a wake-up call to address imbalances and end disorder.

Yemeni Prime Minister Calls for Action After Gas Station Explosion in Mansoura

In the wake of a devastating gas station explosion in the Mansoura district, Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak has declared the incident a wake-up call for systemic reform. The explosion has highlighted the urgent need to address existing regulatory failures, end the prevailing disorder in gas station operations, and hold accountable those who compromise the safety and lives of citizens.

Urgent Measures and Accountability

During a meeting held on Sunday in the temporary capital, Aden, with the General Director of the Yemeni Petroleum and Gas Corporation, Mohammed Thabet, and the Executive Director of the Yemeni Gas Company, Mohsen bin Wahit, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity for each entity to fulfill its responsibilities. He committed to holding all parties responsible for any negligence accountable based on the findings of the investigation committee. The Prime Minister pledged to implement strict controls and procedures to eliminate violations and disorder in Aden’s gas stations and elsewhere in the country, prioritizing safety standards to protect citizens and the community from potential hazards.

Crackdown on Non-Compliance

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak has instructed the gas institution and company to cease supplying gas to non-compliant stations, highlighting that such oversight cannot be tolerated or overlooked. He mentioned that decisive and practical measures would be taken based on the investigation’s outcomes, ensuring transparency and identifying those responsible without evasion. Furthermore, the Prime Minister aims to prevent any overlap in authority between central and local entities.

Ensuring Safety and Stability

The Prime Minister also received a report from the directors of the gas institution and company regarding the current operational situation of stations, existing imbalances, and the cooperation required from relevant central and local authorities to eliminate randomness and apply professional safety standards. They assured that the gas supply situation is stable and available in large quantities, and that attempts by those affected by the reforms to create a crisis and stir public concern would not succeed.

Conclusion

The recent gas station explosion in Mansoura serves as a critical alert for the Yemeni government to rectify longstanding issues, enforce regulations, and ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. The Prime Minister’s firm stance on accountability and his directives to halt supplies to non-compliant stations mark a significant step towards safeguarding the community from similar incidents in the future.
