The Yemeni Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, Haitham Shuja’ al-Din, met today with Peter Launsky, advisor to the Austrian Prime Minister. During their discussion, the ambassador provided updates on the “Fajr Yemen” operation, which President Rashad Mohammed Alimi announced as part of efforts to restore state institutions and end the coup by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia.
Ambassador Shuja’ al-Din reviewed the military and security developments in Yemen. He emphasized the importance of Austria and the international community supporting the Yemeni government’s efforts to restore state institutions. He also highlighted the threats posed by the Houthi militia to the security of Yemen, neighboring countries, and regional stability.
The ambassador drew attention to the ongoing violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians in Taiz and other Yemeni provinces. He noted the resulting human losses and humanitarian suffering, reiterating the necessity of protecting civilians and holding those responsible for these violations accountable.
Ambassador Shuja’ al-Din expressed the Yemeni government’s hope for Austria to provide humanitarian support for the displaced, who number over 200,000 due to the escalation by the Houthi militia. He called for enhanced Austrian political support to aid in restoring state institutions, ending the coup, and increasing coordination with European partners to bolster security and stability in Yemen.
The Yemeni ambassador condemned the terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthi militia, including the targeting of King Khalid International Airport and civilian sites in the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He reaffirmed Yemen’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to protect its security, stability, and sovereignty. He stressed that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of Yemen’s and the region’s security.
In response, the Austrian official underscored the importance of ensuring maritime safety in the Red Sea and reaffirmed Austria’s support for Yemen’s security and stability.
Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and develop areas of mutual cooperation to serve their shared interests.
