Minister of Electricity and Energy Unveils New Equipment for Rural Electrification in Partnership with the World Bank

Launch of New Equipment for Rural Electricity

Today, Minister of Electricity and Energy, Engineer Adnan Al-Kaf, officially launched new equipment and support systems designed to enhance electricity services in rural areas. This initiative, funded by the World Bank through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), aims to bolster the capacity of the General Authority for Rural Electricity to deliver improved electrical services to underserved communities.

Meeting with Leadership of the General Authority for Rural Electricity

Following the launch, Minister Al-Kaf convened a meeting with the leadership and staff of the General Authority for Rural Electricity. During this session, they reviewed the technical and administrative procedures essential for the effective operation of the newly acquired equipment. The discussions also addressed ongoing preparations for comprehensive field surveys in targeted villages and communities, which are critical for facilitating the expansion of renewable energy systems via small and isolated electricity networks known as Mini-grids.

Strategic Importance of the General Authority for Rural Electricity

Minister Al-Kaf underscored the strategic importance of the General Authority for Rural Electricity as the government’s primary entity responsible for expanding electricity services in rural regions. He emphasized the necessity of completing the administrative structures of the authority, particularly the formation of a board of directors, to enhance overall institutional performance.

Additionally, Al-Kaf highlighted the authority’s vital role in managing projects funded by international grants and loans. He stressed the significance of attracting private sector investments within the energy sector. These initiatives are particularly crucial at a time when Yemen seeks to enhance its energy infrastructure to foster sustainable development and achieve economic stability.
