On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, received Thomas Schneider, the German Ambassador to Yemen. This meeting aimed to bolster bilateral relations between Yemen and Germany, focusing on the current local situation and the necessary interventions to support Yemen’s governmental reform efforts.
During their discussion, President Alimi expressed his appreciation for Germany’s supportive stance towards the Yemeni people and their political leadership. He underscored Germany’s crucial role within the European Union in advocating for national sovereignty and regional stability. Furthermore, President Alimi voiced his support for Germany’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, asserting that such a position would significantly contribute to global security and peace.
The conversation also delved into regional developments and their implications for national, regional, and international stability. President Alimi highlighted Iran’s efforts to embroil Yemen in broader conflicts through the deployment of Houthi militias and allied terrorist organizations. He emphasized that the threats posed by these militias to maritime security remain pronounced unless Iranian control over parts of Yemen is dismantled. The President urged for a resolute European response to counter these threats, indicating that the current setbacks facing the Iranian regime present a crucial opportunity to pursue lasting peace and stability in Yemen and the broader region.
In attendance were Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, and Deputy Ambassador Sofia Bujner, reflecting the significance of this dialogue.
