On November 18, 2023, Dr. Mohammed Al-Zahouri, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, officially launched a training workshop in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. This workshop focuses on the final stages of developing an educational sign language dictionary, organized by the Social Care Sector.
The three-day workshop aims to provide a comprehensive review of the educational sign language dictionary for the deaf and mute community. Thirty experts in sign language from liberated provinces are participating to ensure the dictionary serves as a vital resource for students across all provinces.
Dr. Al-Zahouri emphasized that this initiative aligns with the recommendations from the 42nd and 43rd sessions of the Arab Social Affairs Council. He noted the ministry’s commitment to enhancing communication for the deaf and mute community. This effort seeks to empower individuals, enabling them to express themselves and acquire scientific knowledge more easily.
The minister also highlighted ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Education to transform this dictionary into an officially recognized textbook for various educational stages. This integration will facilitate broader access to sign language education.
Dr. Radi Al-Sharbini, President of the International Board for Training Quality and Consulting in Jordan, announced that the board will award 50 certificates to participants. He also mentioned plans to certify international trainers, who will receive membership cards from the International Board.
This initiative marks a significant step towards improving educational resources for the deaf and mute community in Yemen, fostering inclusivity and enhancing communication skills.
