Masam Project Uncovers Minefield in Midi, Highlighting Local Safety Concerns

Masam Project Uncovers Dangerous Minefield in Midi

Teams from the Masam project, dedicated to clearing landmines in Yemen, have successfully identified and addressed a minefield located near populated areas in the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate. These landmines, reportedly planted by the Houthi militia, were discovered following an alert from a local citizen, significantly reducing the imminent danger to civilians in the vicinity.

Citizen Report Leads to Prompt Action

Engineer Saif Al-Mashmari, the leader of Team 38 of the Masam project, stated that the team received critical information from a citizen named Yahya Jaidi. Jaidi reported finding individual landmines and anti-tank mines while grazing livestock south of the Al-Ja’dah isolation. In response to this alert, the team promptly mobilized to the site to conduct necessary inspections and ensure public safety.

Mine Clearance Operations Under International Standards

In a press statement, Al-Mashmari explained that the team conducted an initial field examination, successfully dismantling and securing four individual landmines along with nine anti-tank mines. These operations adhered to internationally recognized safety protocols for mine clearance, showcasing a strong commitment to safety standards while contributing to the protection of lives in the affected communities.

Community Safety and Awareness

Al-Mashmari emphasized the classification of the area as high-risk due to the widespread presence of landmines. He urged citizens to avoid approaching contaminated sites or engaging in activities within these areas until clearance operations are fully completed. This warning aligns with ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of affected communities and prevent accidents.

The Importance of Community Cooperation

The team leader praised the cooperation of local citizens in reporting suspicious objects, noting that this behavior reflects a heightened awareness of mine risks. Such vigilance enhances safety and protects lives in the communities impacted by landmines. The collaboration between the Masam project and local residents represents a crucial step toward achieving security and stability in the region.
