Meteorologists forecast thunderstorms in mountainous areas and warn of extreme heat in coastal and desert regions.

Weather Forecast: Hot and Humid Conditions Expected

The General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology’s Weather Forecast and Early Warning Center predicts that coastal areas and their surroundings will experience hot and humid weather today, Thursday. The skies will remain mostly clear to partly cloudy, with a chance of scattered rain in the Al-Mahrah and Socotra governorates. Moderate winds will pick up along the eastern coasts, while stronger winds will affect the Socotra Archipelago.

Mountainous Regions: Partly Cloudy with Thunderstorms

According to the daily weather report, which the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) received, the mountainous regions will also see partly cloudy skies. Scattered thunderstorms may occur in parts of the western and southwestern highlands, extending to the highlands of Abyan, Shabwa, and Hadramout. In the desert and plateau areas, the weather will remain dry and partly cloudy, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius. Winds will be moderate to active, stirring up dust and sand.

Temperature Forecast for Thursday

The forecast for maximum and minimum temperatures today in coastal areas is as follows:

  • Aden: 37°C / 30°C
  • Mukalla: 35°C / 28°C
  • Hodeidah: 36°C / 31°C
  • Socotra: 35°C / 25°C
  • Mokha: 36°C / 29°C
  • Al-Ghaydah: 33°C / 27°C
  • Zinjibar: 36°C / 29°C
  • Lahij: 38°C / 28°C

In desert and plateau areas, temperatures are expected to be:

  • Seiyun: 42°C / 22°C
  • Marib: 40°C / 23°C
  • Ataq: 40°C / 27°C
  • Bayhan: 39°C / 24°C

For mountainous regions, the forecast is:

  • Sana’a: 32°C / 15°C
  • Taiz: 36°C / 19°C
  • Dhamar: 29°C / 10°C
  • Al-Dhale: 33°C / 18°C
  • Ibb: 31°C / 14°C
  • Al-Bayda: 33°C / 16°C

Health and Safety Warnings

The center urges residents in desert and coastal areas to take precautions against extreme heat and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Citizens in coastal regions should be aware of the humid conditions and take necessary precautions. Additionally, the center warns those in areas expecting thunderstorms to remain vigilant and take measures to avoid potential hazards.

Marine Conditions: Caution Advised

In its daily marine report, the center forecasts calm seas along the coasts of Shabwa, Abyan, and Aden. The waters off Hadramout and the western coasts will be light to moderately choppy, while the seas around Al-Mahrah and Bab al-Mandab will be moderately rough. The waters in the Socotra Archipelago will experience rough to very rough conditions.

The center reiterates its warning to ship captains, fishermen, and sea-goers around the Socotra Archipelago and in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden about rough seas, high waves, and strong winds. It also advises fishermen and residents along the coasts of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Shabwa, Abyan, Aden, Lahij, Bab al-Mandab, and the island of Meyyun to be cautious of strong winds and turbulent waters.
