The Masam Project, dedicated to clearing landmines in Yemen, announced that its field teams successfully removed 1,579 landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) during the past week. This achievement reflects ongoing efforts to enhance safety in liberated areas of Yemen.
In its latest statement, the project reported that from September 28 to October 4, teams cleared a total of 1,579 explosive materials. This figure includes 1,442 unexploded munitions, 126 anti-tank mines, 6 explosive devices, and 5 anti-personnel mines. These operations play a crucial role in making previously hazardous areas safe for local communities.
The Masam teams also reported that they cleared approximately 240,575 square meters of land in Yemen during this period. This extensive clearance is vital for restoring safe living conditions and allowing for agricultural and residential development in affected regions.
Since the project’s inception in June 2018, Masam has removed and destroyed a staggering total of 463,673 landmines, unexploded munitions, and explosive devices in liberated areas of Yemen. This cumulative effort highlights the project’s commitment to reducing the dangers posed by landmines and improving the quality of life for Yemeni citizens.
The ongoing work of the Masam Project demonstrates a significant commitment to humanitarian efforts in Yemen. By systematically removing landmines and unexploded ordnance, the project aims to foster a safer environment for all residents, paving the way for recovery and rebuilding in the region.
