“Masam” removes 3,174 landmines planted by Houthi terrorist militias in just one week.

King Salman Humanitarian Aid Center's "Masam" Project Removes Landmines in Yemen

In the fourth week of December 2024, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s “Masam” project successfully removed 3,174 landmines from various provinces in Yemen. These mines, planted by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, pose a significant threat to civilians and hinder humanitarian efforts in the region.

Breakdown of Removed Mines

According to a recent statement from the center, the demining efforts included the removal of three anti-personnel mines, seven anti-tank mines, and 3,164 unexploded ordnance. This operation has increased the total number of landmines cleared in December to 5,398. Since the inception of the “Masam” project, the total number of cleared mines has reached an impressive 476,432.

Impact on Civilians

The indiscriminate placement of these mines has resulted in numerous casualties, particularly among vulnerable populations such as children, women, and the elderly. The ongoing demining efforts aim to reduce these risks and create safer environments for displaced communities.

The “Masam” project continues to play a vital role in Yemen’s recovery. By removing dangerous landmines, the initiative not only protects lives but also supports the broader humanitarian mission in the region. As the project progresses, it remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the Yemeni people.
