“Masam” has removed 2,843 landmines and unexploded ordnance since the beginning of the month.

Efforts to Clear Landmines in Yemen Continue

The “Masam” project, dedicated to clearing landmines in Yemen, reported significant progress in its operations. From June 1 to June 12, 2023, teams successfully removed 2,843 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This initiative aims to secure war-affected areas and protect civilians.

Breakdown of Cleared Munitions

According to a statement from the operations room, shared by the Masam media office, the materials cleared during this period included:

  • 2,708 unexploded munitions
  • 104 anti-tank mines
  • 29 anti-personnel mines
  • 2 IEDs

Additionally, the engineering teams cleared approximately 635,652 square meters of land in Yemen.

Achievements in Midi District

In the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate, Masam teams achieved a remarkable milestone. They have now removed a total of 10,178 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs since their operations began in the area. Furthermore, they have successfully cleared 3,276,724 square meters of land.

Cumulative Success Since 2018

Osama Al-Qusaybi, the Director General of the Masam project, announced that since its launch in late June 2018, the project has cleared 567,182 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and IEDs. This ongoing humanitarian effort aims to protect civilians and restore safety to Yemeni territories.

Total Munitions Cleared

Al-Qusaybi detailed the cumulative figures, which include:

  • 399,806 unexploded munitions
  • 151,554 anti-tank mines
  • 7,358 anti-personnel mines
  • 8,464 IEDs

Commitment to Humanitarian Efforts

Al-Qusaybi emphasized that these achievements reflect the continuous humanitarian efforts of the Masam project. The initiative addresses the threats posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance, aiming to reduce their impact on civilians. This work contributes to enhancing security, stability, and humanitarian conditions across various Yemeni provinces.
