The Yemeni government has condemned the recent escalation of terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia, which targeted the Maashiq Palace for the second time and Aden International Airport for the seventh time. These attacks coincided with an attempted strike on Mecca, highlighting a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and undermines the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.
In a statement released on Friday, the Cabinet emphasized that the assault on Aden International Airport, a vital civilian facility serving the public and connecting Yemen to the world, represents a direct attack on the interests of Yemenis. This assault aims to disrupt public institutions and undermine the state’s ability to fulfill its obligations.
The statement also noted that the attack on the Maashiq Palace, the seat of the government and state institutions in the temporary capital of Aden, will not alter the fact that the state continues to carry out its responsibilities. The militia’s efforts to disrupt legitimate institutions or impose a reality through force will not succeed.
The Cabinet stressed that the government views these attacks as a direct threat to state authority, citizen safety, and the continuity of essential services and facilities. It confirmed that necessary measures will be taken to enhance the protection of facilities, increase security readiness, and ensure the uninterrupted operation of civil institutions and services.
The government reiterated that protecting citizens and public facilities, as well as securing the temporary capital of Aden, constitutes a national responsibility that cannot be compromised. The repeated attacks will not deter the government from fulfilling its duties and strengthening the presence of its institutions while exercising its constitutional powers in coordination with the Presidential Leadership Council, local authorities, and military and security agencies.
The government expressed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in confronting threats to its security. It emphasized that the timing of these attacks, alongside the attempted strike on Mecca, places a clear responsibility on the international community regarding actions that threaten regional security, air navigation freedom, and civil facilities, as well as infringing upon the holiest sites of Muslims.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to its constitutional and national responsibilities, working to restore state institutions and end the coup. It stressed that targeting the state will not disrupt its functions, that attacks on Aden will not diminish its role, and that terrorism will not serve as a substitute for state authority or a means to impose a coup on the Yemeni people.
