Leadership Council Chief calls Tareq Saleh to discuss climate change impacts on the West Coast.

In a significant move, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, reached out to council member Tariq Saleh on Wednesday via a telephone call. The primary focus of the conversation was to address the recent devastating climate change-induced weather events that have struck the provinces of Hodeidah, Hajjah, and coastal districts of Taiz, resulting in substantial loss of life and property.

Coordinated Relief Efforts

During the call, President Al-Alimi received a detailed report from Saleh on the coordinated measures being undertaken with both government and local authorities. This includes efforts by the humanitarian cell of the National Resistance Forces in the West Coast region, aimed at providing relief and assistance to those affected by the torrential rains and floods. These natural disasters have claimed dozens of lives and caused immense damage to public and private properties, agricultural holdings, infrastructure, and basic services.

Continuous Communication for Humanitarian Aid

Saleh highlighted the ongoing communication between authorities and relief agencies, including the office of the United Nations Special Envoy. These efforts aim to enable humanitarian organizations to deliver necessary aid and interventions to those affected in areas under the control of the Houthi militias.

Expressions of Condolence and Support

President Al-Alimi extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured and safe return for the missing individuals. He also praised the role of the relevant authorities in the West Coast region for mitigating the disaster’s impact, emphasizing the importance of doubling coordinated efforts with regional and international organizations to provide more aid, rescue operations, and assistance to the devastated families.

The conversation also covered the urgent interventions required from governmental institutions, notably the Ministry of Public Works and its affiliates, to clear roads, resume essential services, and begin the rehabilitation of destroyed infrastructure.
