Yemen Participates in the Global Food Forum in Rome

The Republic of Yemen participated today in the opening of the Global Food Forum (WFF), organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in the Italian capital, Rome. The forum carries the theme “Innovate Today… Nourish Tomorrow.”

Key Discussions Over Three Days

The forum will span three days, featuring discussions led by Abdulmalik Naji, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation for Agricultural Production, and Asmahan Al-Touqi, Yemen’s Ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to UN Agencies in Rome. The discussions will focus on three main pillars: global youth engagement, science and innovation, and investment under the “Hand in Hand” initiative.

Yemen’s Agricultural Investment Focus

The Undersecretary of Agriculture highlighted Yemen’s significance within the “Hand in Hand” initiative due to the humanitarian challenges it faces. He emphasized the importance of investing in the agricultural sector to enhance resilience and achieve sustainable development. He noted ongoing collaboration with the FAO to develop the national strategy for the agricultural and fisheries sectors and the investment plan for 2030.

Targeted Sectors for Development

The initiative’s plan in Yemen aims to attract investments to develop four promising agricultural and food sectors. These sectors include coffee cultivation, beekeeping and honey production, dairy production, and horticultural seedling production. This effort seeks to improve livelihoods, enhance food security, and lift thousands of families out of poverty.
