Kremlin: Putin to meet with Chinese President next Monday.

Putin to Meet Global Leaders at Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit

High-Level Meetings Scheduled in Bishkek

Russian President Vladimir Putin will engage in a series of high-level meetings with leaders from China, India, Turkey, and Iran during the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. This significant event will take place in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, next week, according to Yuri Ushakov, the President’s foreign policy advisor.

Significance of Putin’s Participation

Putin’s attendance at the summit, which includes leaders from ten Central Asian nations, sends a clear political message: Russia remains active on the international stage despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This gathering offers an opportunity for Russia to strengthen its ties with key partners in the region.

Key Discussions on Energy and Security

On Monday, Putin will hold discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A focal point of the talks with Xi will be the new gas pipeline project, “Power of Siberia 2.” This initiative aims to enhance energy cooperation between Russia and China.

On Tuesday, Putin will conduct separate meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The discussions with Erdoğan will center on the war in Ukraine, particularly the escalating situation in the Black Sea. Both Kyiv and Moscow have intensified drone attacks on commercial vessels, prompting Turkey to seek an end to the conflict that has resulted in billions of dollars in economic losses.

Middle East Issues on the Agenda

Ushakov noted that the situation in the Middle East will be a key topic during Putin’s talks with President Pezeshkian. This highlights Russia’s ongoing interest in regional stability and its role as a mediator in international affairs.

As the SCO summit approaches, the world watches closely to see how these discussions will shape geopolitical dynamics in the region and beyond.
