The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries signed a memorandum of understanding today in the temporary capital, Aden, with the World Food Programme (WFP). This agreement aims to strengthen partnership and cooperation to support food security and develop the agricultural and fishery sectors.
The Ministry’s Deputy Minister for Irrigation and Land Reclamation, Engineer Ahmed Alzamki, represented the ministry. Samantha Shatrag, the Deputy Country Representative for the WFP in Yemen, signed on behalf of the program. The primary goal of this collaboration is to enhance local communities’ capacity to address food insecurity challenges and the impacts of climate change, thereby improving livelihoods in Yemen.
The memorandum focuses on promoting cooperation in sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient practices. It also emphasizes the sustainable management of natural resources, land, and water. Additionally, the agreement seeks to develop food systems and agricultural value chains while supporting small farmers and local markets.
