Houthi Militia Kidnaps Yemeni Worker from International Organization in Sanaa

In a troubling development on Saturday, the Houthi militia abducted a young Yemeni man working for an international organization in the capital city of Sanaa, which is under their control.

Abduction Amidst Rising Campaigns Against NGO Workers

Media sources reported that the Houthi militia kidnapped Abdullah Al-Baydani, an IT department official with the World Food Programme (WFP), a United Nations agency. The militia has not provided any explanation for the abduction, and the international organization involved has yet to issue a statement on the matter.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of increasing campaigns by the militia against workers of international organizations. In the past two months alone, more than 40 employees from various international organizations in Sanaa, including women, have been kidnapped.

Calls for Release Unheeded

Despite repeated appeals from the United Nations for the militia to swiftly release the kidnapped individuals, the Houthi group continues its abduction campaign. The workers are being accused of espionage among other charges.

This ongoing situation highlights the precarious conditions under which international organization workers operate in conflict zones such as Yemen. The international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a resolution that ensures the safety and freedom of those unjustly detained.
