Houthi militia abducts the brother of journalist Mohamed Al-Miahai in Yemen, escalating tensions in the region.

Houthi Militias Continue Abductions in Yemen: Journalist’s Family Targeted

Recent Abductions of Family Members

Houthi militias have abducted Imad Al-Mihayi, brother of journalist Mohammed Dubwan Al-Mihayi, from his home in the Al-Far’ district of western Ibb Governorate. This incident occurred just two days after the militia kidnapped Mohammed from his residence in Sana’a.

Local sources report that the Houthi group stormed the Al-Ahmoul area on Sunday evening and took Imad to an undisclosed location. This alarming trend of abductions highlights the ongoing repression faced by individuals who express dissent against the militia.

Targeting Journalists and Activists

The Houthi militia previously raided Mohammed Dubwan Al-Mihayi’s apartment in Sana’a on Friday morning. They detained him following his social media posts criticizing the militia and its leader. This action underscores the dangers faced by journalists in Yemen who dare to voice opposition.

In addition to the Al-Mihayi family, the militia has intensified its campaign of abductions throughout Ibb Governorate. They recently kidnapped Jamil Ahmed Abdul Wahab, a local community leader in the city of Ibb, and Ahmed Mohammed Amin Al-Humaidi, a young man from the Al-Sarah area in the Al-Far’ district. Both individuals were reportedly taken due to their calls to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.

Escalating Campaign Against Activists

Since the beginning of September, the Houthi militia has ramped up its abduction efforts, targeting dozens of activists, politicians, educators, and community leaders across various districts in Ibb. The militia’s actions have particularly focused on individuals expressing joy over the September 26 Revolution or advocating for its commemoration, which will occur this Thursday.

This wave of abductions represents a significant threat to freedom of expression in Yemen. As the situation continues to develop, the international community remains concerned about the implications for human rights and the safety of those opposing the Houthi regime.
