On Wednesday, the Supreme Judicial Council convened its regular meeting in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. The session, led by Council President Judge Mohsen Yahya Taleb, began with a moment of silence in honor of two deceased members: Judge Abdul Qawi Hussein Qasim, a member of the Supreme Court, and Judge Abdul Rahim Salem Al-Sheiba, a member of the Anti-Money Laundering Division at the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Both judges passed away in Aden.
The council reviewed the performance report for the Supreme Court for the judicial year 1445 AH, presented by Judge Dr. Ali Ahmed Al-Awash, the Supreme Court President. The council commended the achievements and efforts made across all divisions of the Supreme Court, highlighting the dedication of its members.
In a move to uphold judicial standards, the council approved disciplinary decisions issued by the Accountability Board. The board imposed penalties for delayed promotions on two judges due to their failure to expedite the resolution of cases under their jurisdiction.
The council also examined a report from the Medical Care Committee for Judicial Authority Members, led by Judge Sahl Mohammed Hamza, Vice President of the Supreme Court. The council decided to allow the committee to continue its vital work, ensuring ongoing urgent assistance for critical cases involving judicial members, including judges and administrative staff.
In a significant development, the council approved the transfer of several judges to new positions. Judge Ibrahim Saeed Mohammed Abdullah will join the Primary Prosecution in the Al-Mansoura district of Aden. Judge Asil Saad Mohammed Al-Freiji will serve in the Primary Prosecution for Financial Affairs in Aden, while Judge Abdul Alam Abdul Wahid Ali Aqlan will work in the Primary Prosecution for Industry and Trade in Taiz.
Finally, the council reviewed and approved the minutes of its previous meeting. Members discussed several additional topics listed in the agenda, ensuring a comprehensive approach to judicial governance.
This meeting underscores the council’s commitment to enhancing judicial efficiency and maintaining high standards within Yemen’s legal framework.
