Head of the Leadership Council inspects several development projects in Al Mukalla city.

Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council President Reviews Development Projects in Al Mukalla

On Friday, His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, conducted an inspection tour of several infrastructure projects in the city of Al Mukalla, Hadhramaut province. These projects, for which he had previously laid the foundation stones, are part of a broader effort to enhance the city’s infrastructure.

Accompanied by Hadhramaut’s Governor, Mabkhout bin Madi, the President reviewed the progress of the expansion project for Al Mukalla’s main street in Al Salam neighborhood, extending to Al Shaheed neighborhood. The project, undertaken by Baqdeem Contracting Foundation at the expense of the local authority in the province, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and present Hadhramaut’s capital as an attractive destination for tourism and investment, facilitating movement to and from Al Mukalla port.

The project involves expanding the main street of Al Mukalla by 2.2 kilometers in both directions, incorporating a wave breaker, pedestrian pathways, a sea tongue, parking spaces, and the construction of a parallel corniche with intermittent extensions along the seafront street. The project’s completion rate currently stands at approximately 60%.

Additionally, the President inspected the second phase of the Al Mukalla tourist creek, executed by the Yemeni Al Amoudi Group for Contracting and Trading Limited, which has achieved 45% completion for concrete structures and 85% for the water channel. This phase includes the excavation of a water channel spanning 850 meters with a total area of 47,150 square meters and varying widths between 60 and 50 meters, featuring two bridges, parking spaces, green areas, and tourist spots.

The President also visited the project for cutting and paving the Middle Circular Road in Al Mukalla, a key infrastructure project aimed at reducing traffic pressure on the city’s eastern entrance and facilitating the passage of commercial trailers through the city. Officials from the Ministry of Public Works and Roads in Hadhramaut Coastal Region presented the project components and its 93% completion rate.

The project extends over 4.4 kilometers, leading to the cutting and paving of the Al Ghilailah – Al Maqalab – Ambikha road, an 11-kilometer route connecting Al Mukalla with the Fowah area and city neighborhoods without passing through old residential areas, thus easing congestion.

During his visit, the President received additional briefings from the Governor of Hadhramaut and executive officials on the completion level of other projects, including the Al Ma’awas Rabwah Khalaf road, a strategic 2.2-kilometer link between city neighborhoods, which has seen all construction work completed.

The briefing also covered projects financed by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, which are progressing well, including the commencement of maintenance and restoration work at Al Wadia land port. Work is also underway on education and water projects powered by solar energy systems in coastal and valley directorates, along with numerous executive studies for projects in the public works and electricity sectors, awaiting tendering soon.

The President’s inspection tour was also attended by Engineer Omar Al Amoudi, an advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.

This visit underscores the Yemeni government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for its citizens amidst ongoing challenges.
