The Security Committee of Hadhramaut has reaffirmed that freedom of expression is a fundamental right, as guaranteed by the Yemeni constitution, existing laws, and international agreements. The local authority recognizes this right as essential for community participation and civic engagement.
In a statement released today, the committee emphasized that its primary objective is to maintain security, stability, and public peace. These principles are deemed non-negotiable. The committee firmly declared that it will not tolerate actions that threaten citizen safety, disrupt public order, or infringe upon both public and private property.
While highlighting the constitutional protection of freedom of expression, the committee also noted that the state has a responsibility to uphold public order. Consequently, the exercise of this right must align with existing laws. Actions that jeopardize security, threaten social peace, or misuse public gatherings for purposes beyond responsible and peaceful expression will not be permitted.
The committee assured the public that it will respond to any events or movements in accordance with the law, implementing strict measures against anyone who attempts to undermine the security of the province, intimidate citizens, or operate outside the legal framework governing expression. The overarching goal is to preserve Hadhramaut as a land of peace and harmony.
