On Tuesday, Major General Aidarus Qasim Al-Zubaidi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, arrived in Shabwa Governorate to assess the current situation and understand the needs of its residents.
Upon his arrival at Ataq International Airport, Al-Zubaidi received a warm welcome. He was accompanied by several government ministers, including Shabwa Governor Awad bin Al-Wazir, Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, and Commander of the Ataq Axis, Major General Adel Al-Masabi. Other notable figures included the commander of the Second Brigade, Brigadier General Wajdi Baoum, member of the Consultation Commission Salem Al-Awlaki, various local officials, and military and security leaders, as well as community representatives.
During his visit, Al-Zubaidi announced the official reopening of Ataq Airport, marking the resumption of civil flights after a decade-long hiatus. This reopening follows the completion of extensive rehabilitation work on the airport.
Al-Zubaidi praised the efforts made to restore the airport, emphasizing that its operation will significantly boost development in Shabwa. He noted that the airport’s reopening will facilitate the movement of citizens and strengthen economic and commercial ties between Shabwa and other governorates.
This visit underscores the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council to improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for the people of Shabwa. The reopening of Ataq Airport represents a critical step toward revitalizing the region’s economy and fostering greater connectivity.
