The European Union (EU) Mission in Yemen has condemned the recent attacks by Houthi militias in the Red Sea, labeling them as violations of international law. These actions pose a direct threat to peace and stability in the region.
In a statement released via their account on X (formerly Twitter), the EU Mission highlighted the attack on the commercial vessel Eternity C. They emphasized that this act of terrorism undermines international law and jeopardizes regional security.
The EU Mission further noted that such attacks threaten global trade and the freedom of navigation, which are vital public interests. Additionally, they pointed out that these actions exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in Yemen.
This incident marks the second attack on a European-owned vessel within a few days. The EU Mission urged all coastal nations to provide necessary assistance in rescue operations for affected ships. They called for the immediate and unconditional release of the surviving crew members of Eternity C.
The EU Mission’s statements underscore the urgent need for international cooperation to ensure maritime safety and uphold humanitarian principles in the region. The ongoing threats from Houthi militias highlight the critical importance of addressing these violations to maintain peace and stability in Yemen and beyond.
