Egypt Reaffirms Support for Yemen's Legitimacy and National Unity

Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets U.S. Envoy

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the legitimacy of Yemen and the independence of its state institutions. During a recent meeting in Washington with U.S. Special Envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking, Abdel-Aty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to Yemen’s unity, independence, and territorial integrity.

Prioritizing Security and Stability in the Red Sea Region

In his discussions, Minister Abdel-Aty highlighted the critical importance of Yemen’s security and stability. He pointed out that the situation in the Red Sea and the safety of maritime navigation in the area hold significant priority for Egypt’s national security, as well as for the broader Arab region and the Red Sea area. He also noted the direct connection between the security of the Red Sea and stability in the Horn of Africa.

Support for a Comprehensive Political Solution

According to a statement from the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, Minister Abdel-Aty reiterated Egypt’s support for all initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis. He referenced the Gulf Initiative, its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216. Abdel-Aty stressed that these efforts must meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people and alleviate their humanitarian suffering.

International Community’s Role in Humanitarian Aid

The Egyptian Foreign Minister underscored the necessity for the international community to play an active role in mitigating the humanitarian crisis facing the Yemeni people. He called for adequate support to fund United Nations relief programs in Yemen. Furthermore, he highlighted Egypt’s commitment to supporting relevant UN efforts and noted the various assistance initiatives Egypt has undertaken, particularly in providing medical and food aid to the Yemeni population.

This renewed commitment from Egypt reflects a broader strategy to foster stability and humanitarian relief in Yemen, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in addressing ongoing crises in the region.
