Egypt’s Foreign Minister Stresses the Importance of Preserving Sudanese State Institutions

In a meeting held in Cairo on Thursday, Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs, emphasized the critical need to preserve the institutions of the Sudanese state. The meeting, which was attended by the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, focused on providing humanitarian and relief support to Sudan and its neighboring countries. Dr. Abdel Atty also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the Sudanese people retain ownership of the political process.

During the discussions, both parties reviewed regional and international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive ceasefire in Sudan. They also discussed enhancing the delivery of humanitarian aid, including the proposal to hold talks in Switzerland between the conflicting parties in Sudan.

Both Dr. Abdel Atty and the U.S. envoy expressed their hope that these efforts would lead to significant progress, paving the way to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister underlined the urgency of fulfilling the commitments made to provide support to Sudan and the neighboring countries hosting Sudanese refugees. These commitments were pledged during relevant international conferences.

On his part, the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s multifaceted efforts to mitigate the crisis in Sudan. This includes facilitating a shared vision among Sudanese political forces and hosting hundreds of thousands of Sudanese citizens fleeing the conflict.

This meeting underscores the ongoing international concern and collaborative efforts to address the crisis in Sudan and support its people during these challenging times.
