Egypt Calls for Transition to Second Phase of U.S. Peace Plan

Minister Emphasizes Political, Humanitarian, and Developmental Aspects

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, stressed the importance of moving to the second phase of the U.S. peace plan. This phase should encompass political, humanitarian, and developmental elements. He highlighted the need for early recovery steps and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, ensuring that humanitarian aid aligns with the population’s needs.

Discussion with EU Foreign Policy Chief

This statement came during a phone call with European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas. The two leaders discussed bilateral partnerships and regional and international developments. They particularly focused on ongoing consultations in New York aimed at securing a UN Security Council resolution. This resolution would establish a peace council, deploy an international force, and form an administrative Palestinian committee.

Egypt’s Role in Peace Initiatives

Minister Abdel Aty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to solidify the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement. He also outlined plans for hosting an international conference to rebuild Gaza in November, urging active participation from EU member states.

Addressing Regional Challenges

The conversation also covered the situation in Sudan, where both parties condemned the violations occurring in the city of El Fasher. They emphasized the critical role of the international community in halting these crimes. Additionally, they exchanged views on supporting sustainable development across Africa, particularly in the Sahel region, and enhancing economic cooperation among African nations.

Conclusion

Egypt’s proactive stance on the U.S. peace plan and its commitment to regional stability highlight its role as a key player in Middle Eastern diplomacy. The upcoming conference in November presents an opportunity for international collaboration in rebuilding Gaza and addressing broader regional challenges.
