The death toll from a devastating train collision just outside Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, has risen to 14, as reported by the state railway company, PT Kereta Api Indonesia. The collision occurred when a long-distance train collided with the rear of a stationary passenger train at the Bekasi Timur station, located east of Jakarta. The impact resulted in severe damage to the front carriages, leading to numerous casualties. Authorities have since transported the deceased to a nearby hospital for identification. The CEO of PT Kereta Api Indonesia has indicated that the death toll may rise further as investigations progress.
