Civil society groups condemn the siege of Hamma Sarar village in Al Bayda by Houthi militants as an act of terrorism.

Yemeni Civil Society Organizations Condemn Houthi Militia Siege on Hamma Sarar Village

Civil Society’s Outcry Against Houthi Atrocities

In a resolute denunciation, Yemeni civil society organizations have condemned the brutal siege and overt assault conducted by the Houthi militias on Hamma Sarar village in Radaa city, Al Bayda Governorate. A joint statement, received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), highlighted the Houthi terrorist militias’ encirclement of the village with tanks and armored vehicles since Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The militias escalated their aggression by deploying drones over the village and destroying mosque minarets.

Violence and Repression

The statement further revealed that the Houthi militias had killed a 28-year-old citizen, Saif Mardas Maqbel Ahmad Al-Sarari, along with another villager at a militia checkpoint at the entrance of the village. The bereaved families’ demands for justice were met with suppression and intimidation by the Houthi forces.

Escalation of Crimes and Violations

Since their coup, the Houthi militias have intensified their crimes and violations against civilians across numerous Yemeni villages and governorates under their control. These acts include killings, forced displacements, and home demolitions, all part of their attempts to break the will of the Yemeni people and impose their extremist ideology.

International Silence and Calls for Action

The statement criticized the international community and organizations for their silence on these violations, which undermine peace efforts and prolong the war. It urged the UN Security Council and the international community to take responsibility for the ongoing systematic attacks and terrorism against women and children in Qifah and Radaa, highlighting the Houthis’ terrorist nature and cruel behavior.

A Plea for International Solidarity

Civil society organizations have called on the international community to stand firm against these crimes and to take serious measures to deter the Houthi militias. They also appealed to local and international rights bodies to condemn these atrocities, expose them to the world, and pressure the Houthis to halt their attacks on civilians and hold the perpetrators accountable.

The statement was endorsed by a broad coalition of 113 organizations, ranging from national coalitions for saving Al Bayda to various human rights, development, media, and women’s empowerment groups across Yemen, demonstrating widespread condemnation of the Houthi’s actions and a unified call for peace and justice.

This collective outcry underscores the urgent need for international intervention to protect civilians and restore peace in Yemen, highlighting the atrocities committed by the Houthi militias and the silence that has allowed these violations to continue unabated.
