Dozens of armed individuals gathered outside the Ibb Governorate Police Department, currently under Houthi control, to demand the swift apprehension of those involved in a recent murder. The incident, which occurred earlier this month, allegedly involves individuals linked to a prominent Houthi leader.
According to local sources, the protesters, who traveled from the Kitab area in the Yareem district, expressed their frustration over the lack of action in capturing the killers of Jamil Ali Naji. Naji was shot dead by Houthi members during a dispute over land in the Mufraq Souk Al-Rujad area of the Al-Makhader district.
The sources revealed that the suspects belong to a group associated with Houthi leader Abdul Wahid Al-Marwi, who serves as the appointed deputy for technical affairs in Ibb. Protesters accused the Houthi authorities of shielding the perpetrators and obstructing their prosecution, despite three weeks having passed since the crime.
Jamil Ali Naji, who worked as a security officer in the Mufraq Habish area, lost his life while protecting construction workers on disputed land, following directives from the court. His death highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding land disputes in the region.
Ibb Governorate, particularly its northern regions like Al-Suhool, has witnessed a continuous rise in land-related conflicts. These disputes rank among the leading causes of violent crimes in the area. Furthermore, many accuse the Houthi militia of exacerbating these conflicts for political and economic gains.
The situation in Ibb underscores the urgent need for accountability and justice in a region plagued by violence and instability. As protests continue, the community seeks resolution and an end to the cycle of impunity.
