Governor of Taiz Praises Security Efforts to Enhance Stability

Governor Nabil Shamsan commended the ongoing security efforts aimed at bolstering safety and stability in Taiz. He emphasized that the General Directorate of Police’s plan to regulate and prevent the carrying of weapons seeks to protect civilians and create a secure environment for international organizations and investors.

Launch of the Weapons Control Workshop

During the inauguration of the workshop announcing the Taiz Police’s weapons control plan, Governor Shamsan highlighted the presence of key figures, including Major General Abdul Aziz Al-Majidi, Chief of Staff of the Taiz Axis, and Colonel Mansour Al-Akhali, Director of Taiz Police. He noted that this event marks the culmination of a series of workshops and ongoing efforts to solidify this initiative. The plan represents a cornerstone of the province’s economic and social strategy, aiming to foster genuine partnerships among security forces, local authorities, the private sector, and international organizations to achieve tangible results.

Taiz: A Model for Security and Investment

Governor Shamsan pointed out that Taiz leads in developing and implementing a comprehensive weapons control plan, positioning itself as a model for security agencies in protecting citizens and ensuring a safe environment for investment and humanitarian work. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of security forces to successfully execute this plan.

Acknowledgment of International Support

The governor also praised the contributions of international partners and supporting organizations, particularly the “Civic” Center for Civilian Support amid conflict. He acknowledged their role in training and capacity-building programs that led to the announcement of this plan. Despite significant challenges, Shamsan believes Taiz will become a benchmark for regulating weapon possession and safeguarding civilians and public and private property.

Security Situation Overview

Major General Al-Majidi reviewed the security conditions in Taiz since the onset of the war. He highlighted the coordination between the national army and security agencies in restoring state authority and institutions, despite systematic attacks on the security and military infrastructure. He reaffirmed the support of the Taiz Axis leadership for the weapons control plan and its commitment to facilitating its success, which will enhance civilian protection and achieve the plan’s objectives.

Progress in Weapons Control Implementation

Colonel Mansour Al-Akhali announced the commencement of the second phase of the weapons control plan. He reported that the first phase resulted in a 30% reduction in weapon carrying in the city and a 92% increase in crime resolution rates during the first quarter of 2025, marking a 10% improvement over the previous year. Additionally, authorities confiscated 45 unlicensed firearms.

Commitment to Ongoing Strategic Planning

Dunia Al-Mamoun, the country director for Civic, expressed her satisfaction with the success of the first phase of the weapons control plan, especially given the challenges faced by the province. She confirmed that the strategic plan will continue through 2028, aiming to make Taiz an inspiration for others in protecting citizens in collaboration with security agencies and securing international support for achieving stability.

Workshop Highlights and Future Goals

The event featured detailed presentations on the plan’s phases, evaluations of the first phase, and objectives for the second phase. Contributions came from the Director of the Planning and International Cooperation Office, district managers, security and military leaders, as well as representatives from the European Union and supporting organizations.

This initiative reflects a significant step towards enhancing security and stability in Taiz, fostering a safer environment for all residents and stakeholders.
