A political seminar in Marib highlights that the September 26 Revolution brought significant changes to women’s lives.

Political Seminar Highlights the Role of Political Parties in Empowering Women

A political seminar titled “The Role of Political Parties in Empowering Women Politically” took place today in Marib Governorate. The event underscored the profound changes the 26th September Revolution has brought to the lives of Yemeni women and the political and social structure of the country. The seminar emphasized that constitutional and legal frameworks now ensure women’s wide participation in political life.

Call for Unity Against Houthi Influence

Organized by the Women’s National Committee branch in Marib, the seminar coincided with celebrations of the Yemeni revolutions of 26th September and 14th October. Participants called for collaborative efforts to restore the state, strengthen the republican system, and end the Houthi coup, which is classified as a terrorist organization. They expressed concern over the Houthi agenda to undermine the political process in Yemen and destroy the achievements of the republic, particularly regarding equal citizenship and women’s rights.

Empowering Women in Political Life

The seminar’s outcomes included a strong recommendation to provide Yemeni women with opportunities for political participation during this critical phase. It urged the allocation of appropriate quotas that reflect women’s roles in families and communities. This call extends to leadership positions within state institutions and political parties, recognizing women as essential contributors to society, representing half of Yemen’s population.

Opening Remarks Emphasize Women’s Advancement

Sadia Iqar, the director of the Women’s National Committee branch in Marib, opened the seminar by highlighting its significance in promoting women’s status and empowering them across various fields, especially in politics. She noted that the committee’s activities aim to enhance women’s involvement in shaping national policies and strategies.

Insightful Presentations on Women’s Political Empowerment

The seminar featured presentations from several leaders of political party branches and women’s organizations. Dr. Abdullah Al-Dhahab, a political science professor at the University of Al-Jawf, discussed the role of political parties in empowering women politically. Meanwhile, researcher and activist Amina Al-Rifai addressed the changes and opportunities the 26th September Revolution has created for Yemeni women, along with the challenges and factors that hinder women’s development and their ability to influence political decision-making.

This seminar serves as a pivotal platform for advocating women’s rights and political empowerment in Yemen, reinforcing the ongoing commitment to achieving gender equality and democratic values in the nation.
