Progress on the Restoration of the Western Wing of Al-Mukalla Museum

Governor Reviews Project Status

Saeed Al-Khanbashi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadhramaut, recently assessed the progress of the restoration project for the western wing of Al-Mukalla Museum, also known as the Sultan Al-Qaiti Palace. This initiative, funded by the European Union, aims to preserve historical landmarks and enhance the cultural infrastructure in the region.

Plans for Cultural Revitalization

During a meeting with Riyad Bakramoum, the Director General of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums in the Hadhramaut Coast, Al-Khanbashi learned about the authority’s plans to revitalize the areas surrounding the palace. Bakramoum outlined strategies to repurpose these spaces after the completion of restoration work. This effort aligns with the vision for the Grand Hadhramaut Museum, which seeks to expand the museum’s offerings.

New Exhibits and Facilities

Bakramoum highlighted that the restoration project includes the establishment of both permanent and temporary exhibition halls. Additionally, the project will create dedicated spaces for cultural and artistic activities. A new library at Al-Mukalla Museum will house the royal archives, rare books, magazines, and newspapers from Hadhramaut, thereby preserving historical memory and supporting academic research.

Significance of the Restoration Project

Governor Al-Khanbashi praised the efforts of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums, as well as the support from the European Union. He emphasized that the restoration of the Sultan Al-Qaiti Palace represents a pivotal step in safeguarding Hadhrami identity and protecting the historical and architectural heritage of Al-Mukalla.

Cultural Importance of Al-Mukalla Museum

Al-Mukalla Museum stands as one of the most significant cultural institutions in Hadhramaut. It plays a crucial role in showcasing the province’s history and cultural status while stimulating cultural and tourism activities.

Operational Budget Allocation

In light of the museum’s importance, Governor Al-Khanbashi directed the reallocation of the operational budget for Al-Mukalla Museum. This decision aims to ensure the sustainability of its activities, enhance services, and strengthen its role as a cultural and knowledge hub for the local community and visitors.

Conclusion

The restoration of the western wing of Al-Mukalla Museum marks a significant advancement in preserving the cultural heritage of Hadhramaut. With ongoing support from international partners and local authorities, the museum is set to become a vibrant center for cultural exchange and historical education.
