Yemen’s Robotics Team Claims Victory at the Global Robotics Championship in Cairo

Yemen’s Robotics Team Triumphs at Global Championship

Yemen’s robotics team celebrated a remarkable achievement by securing the championship title at the Global Robotics Championship (GRC) held on May 1 and 2, 2026, at the British University in Cairo. This esteemed event, organized by Discovery, drew participation from over 800 students across 120 teams representing 40 educational institutions throughout the Arab world.

Yemen’s Participation in the Championship

The participation of Yemen’s teams in the championship was facilitated through collaboration with the Arab Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Association, with backing from the Talented Academy in Sayoun. The country showcased its capabilities with six teams from three educational institutions. Notably, Al-Samaa Schools in Aden and Al-Nebras Private Model Schools each contributed five teams, while the Creative Mind Training and Rehabilitation Center from Taiz added one team to the competition.

Impressive Results and Recognition

The Yemeni teams delivered outstanding performances, particularly Al-Samaa Schools and Al-Nebras Private Model Schools, which excelled in various challenges. They emerged victorious in both the Sumo Challenge and the Tug of War Challenge. Furthermore, they secured third place in the Environmental Rescue Challenge and received the Teamwork Award in the Formula 1 Challenge, alongside the Rising Star Award in the Line Following Challenge. The Creative Mind Training and Rehabilitation Center from Taiz also performed admirably, achieving second place in the Sumo Challenge.

Saeed Baharitha, the Executive Director of the Talented Academy in Sayoun, commended this significant accomplishment. He emphasized that the success in Cairo is a testament to the ongoing efforts to nurture talent and provide young individuals with essential tools for their future. Baharitha remarked that this recognition underscores the capabilities of Yemeni talents, which can thrive when given a supportive environment.

Engineer Salem Al-Sabaya, the Robotics Department Supervisor and head of the Yemeni delegation, attributed the team’s success to a comprehensive approach that began early on. This included intensive training programs and meticulous technical preparations for the participating teams.
