Yemeni scholars and preachers have stressed the importance of unifying national efforts and positions. They highlighted the need to enhance the role of scholars in countering Houthi extremist ideology, protecting religious and national identity, and safeguarding future generations from misguided ideas and misleading slogans. They called for solidarity behind state institutions and a unified religious and national discourse to address the current challenges facing Yemen.
This discussion took place during a meeting organized by the Yemen Scholars Communication Program titled “Yemeni Scholars and the Duties of the Current Phase,” which included several scholars, preachers, and program members.
In the first paper, political affairs expert Abdu Salem emphasized the need for scholars and preachers to shift from general discourse to practical programs. These programs should enhance community awareness and expose the dangers of the Houthi project while promoting coordination among religious components and unifying their field efforts.
In the second paper, Sheikh Jamal Ghandal warned against the exploitation of religious slogans to promote deviant ideas and influence the awareness of younger generations. He asserted that protecting youth requires building intellectual immunity based on a correct understanding of religion, reinforcing identity and belonging, and countering rumors and misleading concepts.
The third paper, presented by Sheikh Ammar Al-Ariqi, stressed that the existence of the state and its institutions is a legitimate and national necessity for protecting society and safeguarding its interests. He emphasized the importance of rallying behind the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions while unifying references and decision-making sources. He also praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting Yemen and its religious and scientific programs, commending the sacrifices of the armed forces and popular resistance in defending the republic and restoring the state.
Dr. Issam Shareem, a member of the Shura Council, affirmed the importance of integrating political and religious discourse to confront the Houthi project. He stressed the necessity of adopting a unified national discourse that brings together scholars, national forces, and various community components around the goal of protecting the state and Yemeni identity.
The meeting featured several interventions that underscored the importance of uniting ranks, enhancing national cohesion, activating the role of scholars in community awareness, countering rumors, and addressing intellectual polarization. Participants also discussed the need to develop advocacy tools that meet the requirements of the current phase.
