Yemen Participates in Second Meeting of Regional Program Steering Committee

The Republic of Yemen actively participated today in the second meeting of the Steering Committee for the Regional Program of Arab States. The Yemeni delegation was led by Dr. Ali Mousa, the Chargé d’Affaires and Permanent Representative of Yemen to the Arab League.

Discussion on UN Office’s Role in the Region

During the meeting, participants discussed the activities and role of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the Middle East and North Africa. The office plays a crucial role in promoting peace, security, and development while protecting human rights. Additionally, it aims to safeguard the region from drugs, crime, corruption, and terrorism.

Enhancing International Cooperation Against Terrorism

The meeting also addressed the importance of enhancing international cooperation to prevent and combat terrorism. Effective collaboration at both national and international levels is essential for tackling human trafficking and migrant smuggling among member states. The discussions emphasized the need to support regional countries in developing policies to combat crime and enhance the capabilities of government agencies to implement crime prevention programs.

Focus on Health Services for Substance Abuse Treatment

Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the importance of improving access to health services for treating substance use disorders. By addressing these issues, the committee aims to create a safer and more secure environment for all citizens in the region.
