Yemen Participates in Regional Workshop on Counter-Terrorism

The Republic of Yemen actively participated today in a regional workshop focused on enhancing international cooperation to prevent and combat terrorism, particularly the issue of foreign terrorist fighters. The event took place in Cairo, Egypt, and Yemen’s delegation was led by Major General Ahmed Al-Zahri, a member of the Joint Military Security Committee and Director of Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime.

Key Issues Addressed

The workshop, organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, addressed several critical security issues. Participants discussed ways to strengthen Arab security cooperation and examined the latest developments and challenges in the fight against terrorism. Additionally, the workshop provided a platform for countries to share their experiences in counter-terrorism efforts and to review the international legal framework for combating terrorism. Various topics relevant to collective Arab security were also on the agenda.

Yemen’s Counter-Terrorism Experience

Major General Al-Zahri presented Yemen’s experience in combating terrorism, highlighting the challenges and threats that the country faces. His insights aimed to foster a deeper understanding of the unique circumstances Yemen encounters in its fight against extremist groups.

Delegation Composition

Yemen’s delegation included Judge Tariq Al-Izani, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, and Judge Shaif Al-Shibani, the Head of the Training and Rehabilitation Department at the Office of the Attorney General. Their participation underscores Yemen’s commitment to addressing security challenges through collaborative efforts and shared knowledge.

This workshop marks a significant step in Yemen’s ongoing efforts to enhance regional security and combat terrorism effectively.
