The Minister of Information condemns Houthi piracy and its threats to global maritime security.

Minister Condemns Houthi Piracy Threatening Global Maritime Security
Severe Condemnation of Houthi Actions
The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, has strongly condemned the recent act of piracy executed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia. This incident involved an attack on the commercial vessel “Magic Seas,” which flies the Liberian flag and is owned by a Greek company. The attack occurred off the coast of Al-Hudaydah province in the Red Sea. Al-Eryani emphasized that this act represents a blatant violation of international laws and norms, posing a direct threat to maritime security and global trade.
Details of the Attack
In a press statement, Al-Eryani explained that reports indicate the attack began with an attempted hijacking of the ship. The assailants fired shots and launched RPGs from eight small boats. Security personnel aboard the vessel successfully repelled this initial assault. However, the Houthi militia escalated their attack using four explosive-laden drones, two of which collided with the ship, igniting a fire and damaging its cargo. The crew was later evacuated amid fears of the ship sinking due to the extensive damage.
Houthi Noncompliance and Regional Instability
Al-Eryani pointed out that this heinous crime underscores the Houthi militia’s disregard for their commitments. They continue to act as a destructive tool for the Iranian regime, part of Tehran’s broader agenda to destabilize the region, undermine international navigation, and extort the global community for their expansionist goals.
Ongoing Threat to Maritime Security
The minister further noted that this attack highlights the ongoing danger posed by the Houthi militia’s control over parts of Yemen’s coastline. This control threatens maritime security, global trade, and energy supply routes that traverse the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden. Such threats jeopardize the security and stability of the entire region and the world.
Iranian Influence and Military Support
Al-Eryani reiterated that the attack serves as evidence that the Houthi militia acts as a front for Iranian interests, using Yemen as a platform to disrupt regional stability. Iran continues to arm the militia, providing military technology, including missiles, drones, and naval mines.
Call for International Action
The minister asserted that securing maritime routes and protecting regional and international maritime security can only be achieved by restoring the Yemeni state’s full control over its coastline and all territories. Ending the Iranian-backed Houthi coup is essential to prevent Yemen from becoming a base for threatening regional and international interests.
Al-Eryani urged the international community to expedite the classification of the Houthi militia as a global terrorist organization, similar to actions taken by the United States and several other countries. He called for cutting off their funding sources, pursuing their leaders, and providing full support to the legitimate government to regain control over all Yemeni territories. This approach represents the only viable path to eliminate the Houthi threat and ensure regional and international security.
