On Tuesday, the Republic of Yemen participated in the Global Partnerships Conference held in London, United Kingdom. The Yemeni delegation is led by Dr. Afrah Al-Zuba, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation.
The conference, which runs from May 19 to 20, gathers leaders, decision-makers, and representatives from governments, international institutions, and humanitarian organizations worldwide. Attendees will discuss strategies aimed at enhancing international cooperation in response to rapidly evolving global challenges. The primary objective of the conference is to strengthen partnerships among governments, the private sector, international financial institutions, civil society organizations, and donors.
During the opening session, speakers underscored the necessity of creating a more equitable partnership model. This model should prioritize national ownership and support for countries’ plans and priorities. Furthermore, they highlighted the critical role of bolstering national institutions as the bedrock of sustainable development. The discussions also pointed to the widening gap in development financing amid declining aid and escalating humanitarian needs. It was emphasized that collective action is paramount to address shared challenges, including the ramifications of regional crises and climate change.
Yemen’s participation in this conference highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s presence in international forums centered on development and cooperation. The delegation aims to showcase Yemen’s priorities and aspirations during its recovery and reconstruction phase. The government advocates for redirecting support towards developmental aspects and institutional resilience, thereby strengthening partnerships between Yemen and its international allies.
Minister Al-Zuba is scheduled to participate in several sessions and bilateral meetings with various ministers, officials, and representatives from international organizations. She will also deliver a presentation outlining Yemen’s vision and priorities regarding humanitarian and developmental efforts.
This conference serves as a vital opportunity for Yemen to engage with the global community and advocate for its developmental needs and aspirations.
