Yemen Continues to Face Severe Food Insecurity, Urgent Humanitarian Aid Needed Until November

Yemen Faces Ongoing Food Crisis

A recent international report forecasts that Yemen will continue to be among the most food-insecure countries until November 2026. This prediction underscores the persistent challenges of food insecurity and economic decline faced by the citizens of this war-torn region.

FEWS NET Report Highlights Urgent Needs

The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) released a report in May, ranking Yemen fourth among the monitored countries in terms of the number of individuals requiring urgent humanitarian food assistance. The report estimates that approximately 14 million people in Yemen will need support by November 2026.

Factors Contributing to Food Insecurity

The report identifies multiple factors exacerbating food insecurity in Yemen. While the citrus harvest in highland areas and the onset of the agricultural season in lowland regions may provide some respite for food consumption gaps among certain families, overall access to food will remain limited. The situation is further aggravated by rising fuel and food prices, driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East, as well as years of economic decline, reduced livelihoods, and increased taxation.

Moreover, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) anticipates that Phase 4 (Emergency) conditions will persist in specific areas controlled by the Houthis, primarily due to the limited operational capacity of Red Sea ports and a deteriorating business environment. In liberated areas, Phase 3 (Crisis) will continue as economic instability lingers.

The need for food assistance in Yemen remains critical as the country grapples with these multifaceted challenges. For more information, visit Yemen TV.
