Yemen Condemns Terrorist Attack on Indian Cargo Ship

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the terrorist attack carried out by Houthi militias on the Indian cargo ship, MSV FAIZE NOORE OLIYA. The attack involved a bomb-laden boat that struck the vessel while it was sailing in the Red Sea, resulting in its complete sinking. This incident represents a blatant violation of international law and maritime regulations, posing a direct threat to navigation security and the freedom of trade in international waterways.

Solidarity with India

In a formal statement, the ministry reiterated Yemen’s full solidarity with the friendly Republic of India. It emphasized ongoing coordination with relevant Indian authorities and pledged to provide necessary support and assistance to the crew members affected by the attack.

Successful Rescue Operation

The Ministry praised the swift rescue operation conducted by the Coast Guard in the Red Sea sector, in collaboration with naval forces. This operation successfully rescued all 14 crew members aboard the ship, including 13 Indian nationals, who were safely transported to the port of Al-Mokha.

Ongoing Threats to Maritime Security

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that this attack is part of a series of assaults by Houthi militias targeting maritime security in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden. These actions continue to jeopardize the safety of international navigation.

Importance of a Multinational Naval Coalition

In this context, the Ministry stressed that the establishment of a multinational naval defense coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, represents a strategic step of increasing importance. This coalition aims to secure international trade routes and energy supply lines while protecting freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden, in accordance with international law.

Call for Support

The Ministry underscored that sustainably ending these threats requires support for the Yemeni government. It called for empowering the government to assert its sovereignty, secure its coasts and territorial waters, and enhance the capabilities of the Yemeni Coast Guard.
