The Republic of Yemen and the Sultanate of Oman signed a joint cooperation agreement today in Salalah, Oman. This agreement focuses on a significant electricity connectivity project between the electrical networks of Dhofar Governorate in Oman and Al-Mahra Governorate in Yemen. The initiative aims to enhance bilateral relations and foster collaboration between the two neighboring countries.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Al-Mahra Governor Mohammed Ali Yasser and Dhofar Governor His Highness Marwan Al Said, outlines plans to supply electricity to several areas in Al-Mahra. The initial phase includes connecting the cities of Huf and Shahn, with a distribution network designed to handle loads of 3 megawatts for Huf and 5 megawatts for Shahn. Additionally, the project will extend to Al-Ghaydah, accommodating loads of up to 50 megawatts.
Governor Yasser emphasized the project’s significance in supporting the electricity sector and enhancing developmental stability in the region. He expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation provided by Oman to Yemen, highlighting how this project reflects the deep-rooted brotherly relations and good neighborliness between the two nations. He noted that the initiative results from the persistent efforts of the local authority in Al-Mahra and coordination with relevant agencies in both countries. The goal is to translate cooperative relations into tangible developmental and service projects that benefit the local population.
Dr. Khaled Bin Shateef, Yemen’s Ambassador to Oman, praised Oman’s support, stating that the project represents a crucial step toward strengthening cooperation and integration between the two countries. He highlighted that this initiative will bolster developmental and commercial activities while improving service levels in the beneficiary areas.
This project underscores the importance of partnership and collaboration in the electricity sector between Yemen and Oman. It aims to enhance the energy infrastructure and meet the electrical needs of the beneficiary regions, contributing to stability, development, and the advancement of social and commercial sectors.
The signing of this agreement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to improve energy access and foster regional cooperation.
