A recent report from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reveals a notable influx of 14,834 African migrants arriving in Yemen during April 2023. This number represents a 13% decrease compared to March, when 17,027 migrants made the perilous journey.
The report provides insights into the various routes taken by these migrants:
Demographically, the IOM noted that men constituted 65% of the total arrivals, while children accounted for 18%, and women made up 17% of the migrant population.
Furthermore, the report highlights that the total number of migrants reaching Yemen since January 2023 has reached 72,248. This ongoing trend underscores the annual arrival of tens of thousands of African migrants, many of whom are seeking better economic opportunities or fleeing conflicts in their home countries. The current situation reflects the complex dynamics of migration in the region, as individuals continue to risk their lives for a chance at a better future.
